Tomorrow, I return home for a vacation that I badly need. I have had what is, by all accounts, an interesting and very good year with my new employer, but a break is good. Especially with a health condition that I have recently discivered in my life, any chance to get away from everything and take time to myself is a good idea.
I have discovered, unbeknownst to me, that I now have high blod pressure concerns. It was a fluke, really: I tried out one of those in-the-store blood pressure meters during my course last week in Manitoba and I found that my reading falls within the lower level of the high blood pressure range. I need to see my doctor ASAP. :(
This does give me reason to think about something else. When I was in Riding Mountain last week, I received what I can best describe as four "expressions of interest" for 2009. Well, five if you count my current school. But the question I need to ask tonight is this: when is it a good time to change direction in life? I always want to do what's best for everyone concerned, especially my team and my students. Not to mention myself.
I now, however, have my Vice Principal ticket and it wil surely open some doors for me. At the moment, if indeed I do leave NNOC after this year, my possible destinations are Winnipeg, Brandon, Dauphin and Minnedosa in Manitoba. However, Thunder Bay, Halifax, and St. John's have also opened up.
Who knows...what do you think?

I'm BACK!!!
There has been, as you may have noticed, a change in my blog. Simply put, someone out there felt I was breaking employment law with my old blog at david-alexander.blogspot.com and so I am starting fresh with the notion that you may try to knock me down, but you can't knock me out. As a result, while my old blog is now a thing of the past, this new blog is me - here and now.
So why the new title? I go around from town to town, doing whatever I can to help young people be all they can be. I thought of the classic TV Series "The Littlest Hobo" when I came up with the name: maybe tomorrow I'll want to settle down, but until tomorrow, the whole world is my home. Every stop I make, I make a new friend, but I travel light, don't pack a lot, and then I'm gone again. But I make sure that my students - and the stakeholders I serve - are equipped with all possible tools to be successful in The Game Of Life, when the time comes for me to move on. Knowing when to raise a hand, to call a bluff, and so much more.
While I will continue to use Facebook for daily updates, this site will be devoted once again to deeper reflections and discussion topics. This is one of the reasons why I started my first blog in 2003.
It's back to the basics.
